Wilton Horse Trials - Background to the Event

Wilton Horse Trials is run in Wilton Park owned by the Earl of Pembroke and the Trustees of the Wilton House Trust. The first Wilton Horse Trial was run in 1976 and it has always been a well renowned and popular event. It has a reputation for being a very friendly and efficiently run event and is well supported by local companies and the local community.

It was taken over by the present organiser, Anthony Ffooks, a British Eventing Technical Adviser for over 20 years, in 1998. Originally in 1998 and then during the past few years the layout of the cross-country courses has been changed fairly dramatically. This year the date has been change to the first weekend of August but will revert to the last weekend in July for 2010. We will attract most of last year’s Olympic Team members and many internationals. The Event is also the fourth Event in the exciting Stately Homes Challenge sponsored by Mitsubishi for Intermediate riders, linked with Somerley Park (1st-2nd April), Powderham Castle (18th-19th April), Longleat (19th-21st June) and the final at Highclere Castle (27th-28th August).

This is the third year of title sponsorship of Whitehead Vizard, we are very greatful for their continued support in the current financial climate. Please check their link for further details.

There is easy access to the site via the Netherhampton gate into the Park and a hard track leads to a grass parking area overlooking the Show jumping arena. All areas of the site are easily reached from this point.

In 2009 Wilton Horse Trials will be the only Novice and Intermediate event in the South or Midlands and will draw competitors from Cornwall to Kent in the South and as far North as Warwickshire and Leicestershire.

We also run an Area Trial for the Junior South Western Region, this will feature many of the young stars of the future. Junior riders are aged from 14-18 years old.

Wilton Horse Trials is celebrating it's thirty-third anniversary this year.
